Integrative Literature Review on Transformational Leadership and Organizational Change: Implications for African Companies

MOHAMED RHAIHAT

Integrative Literature Review 2019

This paper explores the application of transformational leadership and organizational change in African companies, drawing lessons from Western organizations. It reviews 51 articles from 1990 to 2018, identifying five key themes: impacts of transformational leadership, its role in organizational change, success indicators, leadership context, and its application in Africa. Transformational leadership is found to positively influence organizational change by fostering vision, collaboration, and innovation. African companies face unique challenges, including poor leadership and corruption, but can benefit from adopting transformational leadership to drive socio-economic transformation and development. Future research should focus on contextualizing leadership practices for Africa.

The study found significant correlations between these factors and innovativeness, suggesting that smaller organizations and less experienced FDMs face more barriers to innovation. Future research should consider broader samples and additional factors like organizational structures and government support to further understand these dynamics..
