Leading for Innovation

Leading for Innovation

A different kind of program,
to develop a different kind of leadership

L4i is a different kind of program

It’s about practice—not just theories.
It’s hyper-collaborative and uber-dynamic—not a solo experience.
It takes place inside a true InnovationLab—not in a traditional classroom.

L4i is about developing a different kind of leadership.

The kind that is needed in a world facing increasingly complex challenges. Because “leading for innovation” is not the same as leading for delivery, execution or efficiency. It requires an unusual approach, and an uncommon set of intellectual and psychological resources.

Those that allow you to be, know, and do “new.”

A Different Approach

Your Challenge: Evolved

L4i is about your work.
You will zoom in on a challenge you are currently facing—one that is at the top of your list—and you will use it as a “live case study” as you apply different theories, approaches, and frameworks.

You’ll bring back a new interpretation, a new approach, and a new set of experiments.

Your Capacity: Enhanced

L4i is about you and your role as a leader.
Starting from your strengths, you will observe yourself in action, reflect on the way you show up and invite others to contribute, and process the notes, observations and questions that fellow participants will offer you.

You’ll come to understand what kind of leader your work—and the world we live in—is inviting you to become.

Collaboration: Extensive

L4i is a collaborative process of leadership development.
Working with peers who are on a similar journey and face similar challenges, every activity will become an opportunity to exchange ideas, perspectives, experiences, encouragement and candid feedback.

Everyone will be a teacher and a learner.

Concepts: Applied

L4i is an opportunity to test new frameworks and ways of thinking.
From an advanced interpretation of “social complexity” to a less orthodox approach to “co-design,” from sophisticated models of “unleashing collaboration” to emergent perspectives on “managing change,” you will actively apply the experience of remarkable innovators and put into practice the teachings of world-class leadership scholars.

As you explore diverse schools of thought, you’ll discover how to shake the way you work.

A Different Context

The.Messy.Middle

Take a deep dive inside the space where innovation happens.

Where complexity, ambiguity, uncertainty and conflict are higher than usual. Where you must play with a wider range of choices, a more deliberate process of co-design, a deeper interpretation of what leading means and how it feels.

We call it “the Messy Middle”—and that’s exactly where we invite you to join us.

Heads.Hands.Hearts

Be deeply and actively engaged.
Don’t expect any slides, podium or fixed seating—but plenty of whiteboards, markers, and music as well! You’ll shift from active work in small groups to individual assignments (writing, journaling, mapping, reading) to facilitated plenary conversations, where collective “sense-making” can push everyone’s work to a higher level

We create an environment for the emergence of novelty.

An.Experimental.Mindset

Frame everything as an iterative learning process.
Our organizing principles of deep work, intense collaboration, creative problem-solving, and disciplined self-awareness help create the context for you to try different approaches, reflect, fail, learn, choose, grow…and repeat.

We feed your appetite for experimentation.

An.Innovation.Lab

Step into a real InnovationLab, led by the same team that helped create the Harvard InnovationLab: Maurizio Travaglini and Architects Of Group Genius.
Since its first edition in 2013, they have brought this program to global organizations (among others: Moderna, Federal Reserve Bank of New York), and to world-class universities in collaboration with their faculty teams (Harvard Graduate School of Design, Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School).

We want to help you “dare to do new.”

A Different Impact

Since 2003, immersive experiences created by the L4i team have influenced the work of thousands of people across six continents. This is how some of them described their impact:

"The impact of Maurizio’s programs on a group of people and his ability to harness their creativity, curiosity and cooperation never ceases to amaze me. Even if the objective is always
to further a bigger cause (strategy, innovation, product, culture, action planning, leadership), the biggest takeaway—every time!—is a very individual and unique insight into myself.”

Alon Rozen, Dean École des Ponts Business School

“Behind the scenes worked a magician. The über-creative presence of Maurizio Travaglini created the physical and spiritual holding environment from which all good things came.”

Nitin Nohria, Dean Harvard Business School, and Rakesh Khurana, Dean Harvard College

“We embarked on a process of evolution that has helped many of us recreate our practice in the virtual environments where most of our work happens right now.
I called that experience ‘a shot in the arm for me.’ It was!”

Professor Ron Heifetz, Harvard Kennedy School

“To me, this was the perfect example of taking slices of genius and forming collective genius, taking individuals and forming a community.”

Executive, Pixar Studio

“A pivotal experience for me in my career and beyond.”

Executive, Moderna

“This week woke up my creative part – the part thinking that it is possible to actually do something here, contribute something, take the lead. I want to make a difference now.”

Skilled worker, Jeep Plant

“Collective intelligence has enabled us to move forward quickly and easily.
This is the way we should work today, whatever the function.”

Executive, Renault

“While usually the master or the teacher is at the center of the ‘arena,’ in this experience we all had the chance to be at the center of the ‘arena,’ too.”
